Federal agencies allow institutions to obtain tax ID numbers from third parties

Several federal regulatory agencies issued an order granting banks and credit unions an exemption to a federal law implementing the Customer Identification Program Rule requirement to provide financial institutions flexibility in obtaining tax identification numbers from a third party, rather than directly from the customer.
