Lawrence Gross Jr., who has served in technology-related positions in several federal government and military agencies for 25 years, will lead the information technology initiatives at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the FDIC announced last week.
Gross has been named the FDIC’s new chief information officer (CIO), and will advise the agency’s senior leaders on IT issues including governance, investment, program management, strategic planning and security. His official start date is Nov. 2.
Gross succeeds acting CIO Martin Henning, who took over the role when former CIO Barry West went on administrative leave earlier this year before resigning in August.
Most recently, Gross served as CIO of the Farm Service Agency, a division of the Department of Agriculture. Previously, he was deputy CIO of the Interior Department and associate CIO of the Treasury Department, roles in which he advised executive leaders on the effective management and oversight of the agencies’ IT portfolios. Gross’ resume also includes time spent in the IT areas of the Department of Energy, Department of Justice and the Navy.
Gross earned a B.S. degree in information systems management at the University of Maryland. He also holds a CIO certification from the National Defense University.
