Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
The Dodd-Frank Act established the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in 2010 to bring the rule-making, supervision and enforcement for Federal consumer financial protection laws under one roof for the first time. Its duties include restricting unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices; taking consumer complaints; promoting financial education; researching consumer behavior; and monitoring financial markets for new risks to consumers.

Commodity Futures Trading Commission
Congress created the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in 1974 as an independent agency with the mandate to regulate commodity futures and option markets in the United States. The agency's mandate has been renewed and expanded several times since then, most recently by the Dodd-Frank Act.

Federal Housing Finance Agency
The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) was created on July 30, 2008, when the President signed into law the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008. FHFA's mission is to provide effective supervision, regulation and housing mission oversight of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks to promote their safety and soundness, support housing finance and affordable housing, and support a stable and liquid mortgage market.

Federal Reserve Board
The Federal Reserve System is the central bank of the United States. It was founded by Congress in 1913 to provide the nation with a safer, more flexible and more stable monetary and financial system. Its duties include conducting the nation's monetary policy; supervising and regulating banking institutions; maintaining the stability of the financial system and containing systemic risk; and providing financial services to depository institutions, the U.S. government, and foreign official institutions.

Federal Trade Commission
The FTC was created in 1914 to prevent unfair methods of competition in commerce as part of the battle to "bust the trusts." Its mission is to prevent business practices that are anticompetitive or deceptive or unfair to consumers; to enhance informed consumer choice and public understanding of the competitive process; and to accomplish this without unduly burdening legitimate business activity.

Financial Stability Oversight Council
As established under the Dodd-Frank Act, the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) is charged with identifying threats to the financial stability of the United States; promoting market discipline; and responding to emerging risks to the stability of the United States financial system. The Council consists of 10 voting members and 5 nonvoting members and brings together the expertise of federal financial regulators, state regulators, and an insurance expert appointed by the President.

National Credit Union Administration
The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) regulates, charters and supervises federal credit unions.
