The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is seeking nominations for members of its Consumer Advisory Board ”“”“ a panel of consumer experts who will advise the agency on emerging trends and practices in financial services and products. Read on to learn about the panel.
“We're looking for people with a background in consumer protection, financial services fair lending or community development,” CFPB director Richard Cordray explained in a video posted to the agency's website. “Do you know anybody with background in these areas? If so, please nominate them to serve on the Consumer Advisory Board.”
Section 1014 of the Dodd-Frank Act requires that a Consumer Advisory Board be established to advise and consult with the bureau's director on a variety of consumer financial issues. The board will consist of no fewer than 16 members and will meet at least twice annually.
The director will make appointments to the board without regard to political affiliation; however, federally registered lobbyists will not be considered for positions.
Nominations are due by March 30.
