The federal banking agencies published comprehensive data depicting communities presenting opportunities for covered institutions to receive Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) compliance credit through outreach activities, as well as a list of banks recently evaluated for their efforts to fulfill their CRA obligations. Federal agencies release list of distressed, underserved communities
Federal bank regulatory agencies released their 2025 list of distressed or underserved nonmetropolitan middle-income geographies where certain bank activities are eligible for CRA credit. Under the CRA, the agencies evaluate a bank’s record of meeting the credit needs of its entire community, including low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, consistent with safe and sound operations. CRA-eligible areas are determined based on local economic conditions, including unemployment, poverty and population changes. The criteria for CRA eligibility has been consolidated from 12 to nine categories, based on the latest available data collected by the agencies. Learn more here.
OCC publishes latest CRA performance evaluation results
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) released a list of CRA performance evaluations made public during the period of June 1-30. The list includes the national banks, federal savings associations and insured federal branches of foreign banks that have received CRA ratings. Possible ratings assigned are outstanding, satisfactory, needs to improve and substantial noncompliance. Seven of the 22 banks listed received “outstanding” ratings while the rest all were rated “satisfactory” for their efforts to extend services to underserved areas in their designated communities. FHFA House Price Index shows decline in April
The Federal Housing Finance Agency’s (FHFA) seasonally adjusted monthly House Price Index (HPI) reported house prices fell 0.4 percent from March to April but increased 3 percent from April 2024 to April 2025. The previously reported 0.1 percent price decline in March was revised upward to 0 percent. The FHFA HPI is a comprehensive collection of publicly available house price indexes that measure changes in single-family home values, using seasonally adjusted, purchase-only data from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. FDIC releases May enforcement actions
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) published a list of 12 administrative enforcement actions taken against banks and individuals in May, as well as two notices. The administrative enforcement actions in those orders consisted of one consent order, one order terminating a consent order, four prohibition orders and six orders terminating a total of 100 waiver orders invoking Sec. 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance (FDI) Act. The Sec. 19 provision generally prohibits individuals convicted of certain crimes involving dishonesty, breach of trust or money laundering, or those who have entered pretrial diversion programs for such offenses, from working at or participating in the affairs of an FDIC-insured depository institution, without the FDIC’s prior written consent.
