Freddie Mac has named Heidi Mason as executive vice president and general counsel. Mason takes over for interim general counsel and current Chief Administrative Officer Jerry Weiss, who will continue his duties as chief administrative officer after Mason joins the company. She will take over the role on March 7, 2022.
“Heidi brings deep expertise in areas across the legal spectrum, including in mortgage lending, servicing, credit access and regulatory matters, among others,” Freddie Mac CEO Michael DeVito said. “I have no doubt she quickly will become a valuable member of Freddie Mac’s executive team.
“I want to thank Jerry Weiss for his invaluable service to the board of directors and senior management as interim general counsel, where he led the company through a number of complex legal, regulatory, business and governance matters.”
Mason joins Freddie Mac following time as a partner at ElevateNext, where she provided legal, consulting, and regulatory compliance services to financial services companies throughout the United States. Previously, Mason spent 17 years at Wells Fargo serving as executive vice president, senior deputy general counsel, and head of consumer banking legal.
During her time at Wells Fargo, Mason, along with outside counsel, she worked to reach a $1 billion settlement with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau over Wells Fargo’s alleged abusive consumer loan practices.
