The National Credit Union Administration’s (NCUA) Chairman Todd Harper has appointed Catherine Galicia as the agency’s chief of staff.
“Catherine’s breadth and depth of knowledge of financial services and consumer financial protection policy has served as a guiding light for me throughout my time on the NCUA board,” Harper said in a release.
“Her vast bicameral experience on Capitol Hill, at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau [CFPB], and as a leader in the private industry has established her as a trustworthy negotiating partner among stakeholders to forge consensus agreements,” he continued. “She is a champion for economic equity and justice and an invaluable advocate for 123 million credit union members across the nation.”
In her 15 years on Capitol Hill, the new chief of staff worked with Christopher Dodd and Tim Johnson as counsel on the Senate Banking Committee; Sen. Evan Bayh as staff director of the International Trade and Finance Subcommittee and Banking Committee counsel; Congressman Jim Maloney as legislative director and financial service policy aide; and Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez as legislative director and financial service policy aide. She also served as the head of the Office of Legislative Affairs at the CFPB and vice president for government affairs at Banco Popular.
Most recently, Galicia worked as Harper’s senior policy counsel when he was on the NCUA board. Galicia is also one of the highest-ranking Latinas in a Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act agency.
