With new leadership presiding over the festivities, and doing so on the heels of the release of the association’s new legislative and regulatory agenda, the Independent Community Bankers of America’s (ICBA) 2019 annual conference in Nashville promises to be a newsworthy event for the financial services industry.
Dodd Frank Update will be there, beginning March 18, to chronicle any news and fresh insight shared by event speakers and attendees, as well as interesting sights and sounds always present at one of the industry’s largest conferences.
A year after it was announced that she would be move from the chairman’s role to become ICBA’s new president and CEO, Rebeca Romero Rainey will have the opportunity to illustrate key elements of ICBA’s latest policy platform – “Community Focus 2020: The Community Bank Agenda for Expanding Economic Opportunity.”
“ICBA’s Community Focus 2020 agenda supports needed financial and regulatory reforms that policymakers on both sides of the aisle can advance,” Rainey said in a press release. “We look forward to working with the [President Donald Trump] administration, Congress, and financial regulators to advance these policies to ensure a robust, fair and competitive financial system that best serves consumers.”
Among the host of topics covered in the policy plan are: regulatory relief initiatives, such as tailoring regulations to account for community banks’ scale and risk profile; recommendations for ensuring a level playing field in the financial marketplace; possible data security, privacy and fraud prevention policy initiatives; cybersecurity matters; and secondary mortgage market access.
The featured speakers set to take the stage during the event’s general sessions include some interesting and knowledgeable business leaders, innovators and one robot (yes, you read that right).
Luminary Productions CEO Vinh Giang, whose company produces video for individuals and companies worldwide, is set to speak during the Tuesday general session about the value of performance-enhanced communication. His presentation will feature Sophia the Robot, a humanoid created using artificial intelligence (AI) to help people in fields such as medicine and education, as well as to serve AI research.
Speaking on the importance of implementing proactive cybersecurity solutions on Wednesday will be Theresa Payton, a former White House chief information officer (CIO) and cybersecurity authority who has held executive roles in banking technology at Bank of America and Wells Fargo. She is the founder, president and CEO of Fortalice Solutions, a cybersecurity consulting firm, and the co-founder of Dark3, which specializes in cybersecurity products.
The closing general session Thursday will feature national bestselling author and inspirational speaker John O’Leary. O’Leary, who was severely burned as a child and was not expected to live, sold 120,000 copies of his book “On Fire: The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life,” and hosts the “Live Inspired” podcast, which is ranked a top 20 business podcasts on iTunes and by Inc. magazine.
The speakers were selected to fall in line with ICBA’s “Be Bold” theme for this year’s conference.
