The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau made a media splash when it released several important final mortgage rules earlier this year. However, another recent CFPB final rule garnered far less attention. The rule, which supersedes an interim final rule released in 2011, establishes bureau procedures regarding the confidential treatment of certain information. Industry commenters were concerned that the interim final rule was too permissive in its criteria for disclosing such information — particularly when it comes to disclosing information to state attorneys general.
