Congressional Democrats have announced the minority members of the House Committee on Financial Services for the 118th Congress. Many of the members chosen to serve on the committee were part of the committee’s majority in the 117th Congress.
Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) was selected to continue leadership of committee Democrats as the committee’s ranking member. She will be joined by Reps. Nydia Velázquez (D-N.Y.), Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), David Scott (D-Ga.), Al Green (D-Texas), Emmanuel Cleaver, II (D-Mo.), Jim Hines (D-Conn.), Bill Foster (D-Ill.), Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), Juan Vargas (D-Calif.), Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), Vicente Gonzalez (D-Texas), Sean Casten (D-Ill.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.), Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Sylvia Garcia (D-Texas), Nikema Williams (D-Ga.), Steven Horsford (D-Nev.), Wiley Nickel (D-N.C.), and Brittany Pettersen (D-Colo.).
One of the most notable changes from the 117th Congress is the removal of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) from this committee. Ocasio-Cortez was an oft-outspoken member of this committee during the previous congressional term and frequently received the ire of Republicans on the committee and in the House as a whole.
