The tragic attack on Republican congressional representatives as they prepared for a charity baseball game between Republicans and Democrats left many shaken in the Washington D.C. area.
We at Dodd Frank Update recognize that many of the trade associations that we cover are based in the nation’s capital and are glad to report that those organizations and the people involved with them were not in harm’s way. According to published report, those members of Congress, their staffers and Capitol Police officers who were involved are expected to make full recoveries, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who was shot in the hip.
House votes were delayed that day, but the charity game was able to go on as planned. In a rare showing of bipartisanship support that went beyond politics, the winning Democrat team delivered the trophy to the Republicans to present to Scalise in a gesture of solidarity.
President Donald Trump, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and House Financial Services Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) are among those who have spoken out with condolences for those injured in the attack and wishing them a speedy recovery.
