The full Senate confirmed the nominations of Jaime Lizárraga and Mark Uyeda, President Joe Biden’s nominees to serve as commissioners at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Lizárraga, senior advisor to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was nominated to replace Allison Herren Lee, a Democrat, whose term expires in June. Lizárraga oversaw issues relating to financial markets, housing, international financial institutions, immigration and small-business policy as well as serving as Pelosi’s liaison to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
Uyeda, who was nominated to replace Former SEC Commissioner Elad Roisman, a Republican, has served as securities counsel on the minority staff of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. He has over 25 years of experience in corporate and securities law, including 18 years of public service in both federal and state government.
Uyeda previously joined the SEC in 2006 and worked in various roles, including as senior advisor to former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton and former acting chair Michael Piwowar, and as counsel to former SEC Commissioner Paul Atkins.
“We congratulate Jaime Lizárraga and Mark Uyeda on their successful Senate confirmations to serve as commissioners,” the current SEC commissioner said in a joint statement. “On behalf of the entire agency, we would like to welcome them both back to the Securities and Exchange Commission. We look forward to their many contributions to the agency and our work on behalf of the American public.”
