PenFed Credit Union recently hired Ashish Mahajan as its first senior vice president of enterprise data. Mahajan will be responsible for developing enterprise data management (EDM) functions for the country’s second largest federal credit union, including data strategy, governance and futuristic capabilities for analytics and business intelligence, according to a company press release.
Mahajan will report to PenFed First Senior Executive Vice President Lisa Jennings as he works to form the data foundation to provision of high-quality data and establish the build of capabilities for deep analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
“Ashish brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and talent to the PenFed team having led data-driven business transformations at several Fortune 500 companies in the financial, automotive, and consulting industries,” PenFed President and CEO James Schenck said in the release. “As we continue to grow our operations, strategic data management and data-driven business transformations are essential to competing in the global marketplace. Ashish will help us establish world-class level operations.”
Mahajan has more than 21 years of experience in data management and spent the past 18 years leading data management transformations and successfully monetizing data. He most recently worked for TD Bank as senior executive and senior vice president of data management and technologies. Prior to TD Bank, he held senior positions at PNC Bank, General Motors and Deloitte Consulting.
Within the banking industry, Mahajan has overseen the construction of data assets and capabilities that have enabled delivery of high-quality, integrated and governed data for risk and regulatory and financial compliance initiatives such as Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR), Dodd-Frank, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS), liquidity management, as well as others.
As a data management leader, he has been regarded as instrumental in evolving the must-have, foundational data capabilities to revenue producing solutions like big data, data lab and analytics environments for both cross-sell and upsell opportunities, cost avoidance, customer analytics and credit card fraud analytics.
