After seven years at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Kate Fulton is headed to a different building in Washington.
Fulton, who was the chief operating officer at the bureau since 2018, has been named the chief operating officer for the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). She will start at FHFA on May 26.
Fulton began her career at the CFPB in 2013 as a senior counsel in the legal division, and later joined the Office of Supervision, Enforcement and Fair Lending. She was named deputy chief of staff and senior counsel in 2016.
Former acting director Mick Mulvaney promoted Fulton to acting chief operating officer in 2018, and current Director Kathy Kraninger made the appointment permanent in May 2019.
FHFA said its acting chief operating officer, Lawrence Stauffer, will help with the transition and then return to his previous role as a special advisor in the Division of Resolutions.
Prior to joining the CFPB, Fulton served as attorney advisor at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and at a law firm representing federal employees in a wide array of employment matters. She holds a J.D. from Boston University School of Law and a B.A. in communications from the University of Maryland, College Park.
She lives in Rockville, Md., with her husband and two children.
