During the 2017 American Bankers Association’s (ABA) annual convention in Chicago, the trade association’s attending members elected new officers and directors to the ABA board for the 2017–2018 year.
The newly elected board officers include: Chairman Kenneth L. Burgess, Jr., who also is chairman of FirstCapital Bank of Texas in Midland, Texas; Chairman-elect Jeffrey M. Szyperski, who serves as chairman, president and CEO of Chesapeake Bank in Kilmarnock, Va.; Vice Chairman Laurie Stewart, president and CEO of Sound Community Bank in Seattle; and Treasurer George W. Hermann, president and CEO of Windsor Federal Savings, Windsor, Conn.
Multiple existing board members were elected to fresh terms, including: Stacey J. Bentley, president and CEO of Community Bank and Trust Company in Waterloo, Iowa; Jill Castilla, president and CEO of Citizens Bank of Edmond in Edmond, Okla.; W. Wesley Hoskins, president and CEO of First Community Bank in Corpus Christi, Texas; D. Bryan Jordan, chairman, president and CEO of First Horizon National Corporation in Memphis, Tenn.; Andrea B. Smith, chief administrative officer of Bank of America in Charlotte, N.C.; and E. Philip Wenger, chairman, president and CEO of Fulton Financial Corporation in Lancaster, Pa.
The ABA board also includes several members who have some time left on their terms and did not come up for a vote during this year’s conference. Among those board members are:

- Rheo A. Brouillard, president and CEO of Savings Institute Bank and Trust Company in Willimantic, Conn.;

- Luther Deaton, Jr., chairman, president and CEO of Central Bank and Trust Company, Lexington, Ky.;
- James J. Edwards, Jr., chairman and CEO of United Bank Corp in Griffin, Ga.;

- Douglas B. Petno, Commercial Banking CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co. in New York;
