The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) announced it has appointed 35 members to four different advisory bodies.
These appointments are in accordance with CFPB Director Kathleen Kraninger’s Spring 2019 announcement to make changes to the bureau’s advisory committee charters.
Appointments were made to the Consumer Advisory Board, Community Bank Advisory Council, Credit Union Advisory Council, and Academic Research Council. According to a release, these new additions will be advising the CFPB on consumer financial issues and market trends. The bureau said the changes Kraninger made to the charters included, but were not limited to, increasing the frequency of in-person meetings for these groups, elevating the ARC to a director-level advisory committee, and increasing term length for the members.
Members appointed to CAB, a body mandated by the Dodd-Frank Act to advise and consult the CFPB director on consumer financial issues, are: Eric Kaplan, director of Housing Finance Program at the Milken Institute, who will be serving as chairman of the board; Joaquin Altoro, chief executive officer of Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority; Nikitra Bailey, executive vice president at the Center for Responsible Lending; Lorray Brown, attorney/consumer law attorney and co-director at Michigan Poverty Law Program; Nadine Cohen, managing attorney at the Greater Boston Legal Services; David Ehrich, executive director of Alliance for Innovation Regulation; Mae Watson Grote, founder and chief executive officer of the Financial Clinic; Tim Lampkin, chief executive officer at Higher Purpose Co.; Leigh Phillips, president and chief executive officer of EARN, DBA SaverLife; Jean Setzfand, senior vice president, AARP; Rebecca Steele, president and chief executive officer of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling; and Tim Welsh, vice chairman of Consumer and Business banking at U.S. Bank.
Members appointed to the CBAC, a discretionary council designated to advise regarding financial issues related to community banks, are: Valerie Quiett, senior vice president and chief legal officer of Mechanics and Farmers Bank, who will be serving as chairwoman for the council; John Buhrmaster, president and chief executive officer of the First National Bank of Scotia; Patrick Ervin, executive vice president of the Independent Bank; Shan Hanes, president and chief executive office of the Heartland Tri-State Bank; Ronette Hauser-Jones, mortgage division president at the Great Plains Bank; Bruce Ocko, senior vice president director of Mortgage and Consumer Lending of Bangor Savings Bank; Kristina Schaefer, general counsel and chief risk officer of the Fishback Financial Corporation/First Bank & Trust; and Brad Williamson, chief executive officer and president of Islanders Bank.
Members appointed to the CUAC, a discretionary council designated to advise regarding financial issues related to credit unions, are: Racardo McLaughlin, vice president of Mortgage Originations/Operations at TwinStar Credit Union, who will be serving as chairman of the council; Monica Davis, senior vice president of Risk Management at Union Square Credit Union; Michelle Dwyer, president and chief executive officer of Franklin First Federal Credit Union; Rick Durante, vice president and director of corporate social responsibility and government affairs at Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union; Doe Gregersen, vice president and general counsel at Landmark Credit Union; Brian Holst, general counsel at Elevations Credit Union; Jose Iregui, vice president of loan servicing and collections at Langley Federal Credit Union; and Jeremiah Kossen, president and chief executive officer of Town and Country Credit Union.
Members appointed to ARC, a discretionary council designated to advise on the CFPB’s strategic research planning process and research agenda, as well as provide feedback on research methodologies, data collection strategies, and methods of analysis, are: Joshua Wright, professor at the Scalia Law School at George Mason University, who will be serving as chairman of the council; Michael Baye, Bert Elwert professor of business economics at Indiana University; Vicki Bogan, associate professor at Cornell University; Terri Friedline, associate professor at University of Michigan; Tom Miller, professor of finance and Jack R. Lee chair at Mississippi State University; Michael Staten, professor and associate dean at University of Arizona; and Anthony Yezer, professor of economics at George Washington University.
