The Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) mPower, or MBA Promoting Opportunities for Women to Extend their Reach, recently launched mPower Moments, a new monthly MBA video series to help promote topics being explored under the initiative.
Each episode in the series features MBA Chief Operating Officer Marcia M. Davies, the founder of mPower, along with a guest discussing issues important to the mPower community.
“mPower Moments will share brief but substantive conversations with leaders in the real estate finance industry and beyond,” Davies said in a press release. “We’ll talk about opportunities and challenges within our industry and share advice on how to navigate them and truly thrive.”
Davies explained how she believes the use of video will enable mPower to broaden its reach.
“Video allows the mPower community to take some of the information shared at in-person mPower events, whether from speakers on the stage or from the one-on-one networking that occurs, and reach a broader audience,” she said.
MBA released two videos with the launch. The first featured Davies speaking with Jan Fox, an Emmy award-winning TV anchor and reporter and the owner of Fox Talks, offering public speaking coaching and training advice.
When Davies asked Fox to offer one simple tip for improving one’s stage presence when speaking, she emphatically replied: “Increase your volume. Speak louder. Because all of a sudden, when you speak louder you look and sound more powerful.”
The second video featured Megan Moore, special advisor to the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, discussing workplace culture.
“I think it all starts with the values you create, as a company leader, for yourself,” Moore told Davies during the video. “It’s creating an inclusive environment that’s important to me personally and professionally. And then once you have that personal buy in, you should try and incorporate an inclusive environment into your company’s mission and your strategic planning.”
Essent Guaranty Vice President of Strategic Business Development Jean Bradley filmed a “soft launch” of mPower Moments in early 2018, sharing her experience with and passion for mentorship and the power of professional coaching relationships.
